Calaveras Big Trees

Today we decided to take a drive up to the mountains and see the wildflowers. We went to Calaveras Big Trees. There were still small patches of snow on the ground, but the weather was beautiful. The sky was a brilliant blue, and the temperature was in the 70s!

We walked through most of the South Grove. While it felt fabulous to be hiking in the mountains, the sequoia groves here are no match for Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Park. I think Guy will be very awestruck when we visit there this summer.

The most unexpected thing we saw were hundreds of ladybugs breeding! I have never seen so many in one place, and it was amazing. The rivers and creeks were roaring.
On the way back, we stopped at Giant Burger for a forgettable late lunch. We spent a few minutes in the charming town of Murphys, then headed home. We’re so glad we went! Next weekend we will plan another exciting outdoor adventure.

Hiking season is officially here! (Now I just have to get in shape-fast!!!) I was a bit tired today, and we only walked about 3 miles!
