It won't make national news, but it will mark the first time I've seen my name in print. How did this happen?
As many of you know, I'm an MLIS student at San Jose State. Last semester I took a class called Publishing for the Profession. I don't consider myself an accomplished writer, but something compelled me to take the class. I figured it would behoove me to improve my writing skills and get the opportunity to practice whenever possible. It motivates me to have deadlines and assignments due!
I wrote several pieces for the class, and the professor was very encouraging to all the students. Amazingly there were only 17 pupils. So, the school newsletter is published every other month. I have a few articles that would be suitable for this publication, so I submitted one and it will be published in January! I plan to go back and clean up one or two more articles and submit for future editions. I know that these aren't academic articles, but I think that the exposure to the process and having my byline in print will give me great experience for the future, and also add a few lines to my resume prior to my career transition!! Yeah! I'm excited.
