Resolutions for 2006

No, the title does not contain a typo. Last night as Guy was playing video games on his machine, we talked about making resolutions. Just for grins, I decided to pull out my list from last year. To my utter nonamazement, I actually completed only 1 or 2 of the 9 items.

1. Exercise at least 4 days a week
If anything, I exercise less than last year, averaging 1 day a week. Again, we aim to change this for 2007, but I don't think we'll hit 4.

2. Spend more "downtime" with Guy. Again, another slim possibility, considering that every free moment we have on the weekends is spent working in the yard or doing errands. Although last night we had an enjoyable and relaxing New Year's Eve. We played a complete game of Scrabble (he beat me resoundingly), ate pizza, drank champagne, had a lovely fire and watched the "Human Comedy".

3. Take at least one hike (or ski or kayak) per month.
Well, the score for 2006 is hike-2, ski-1, kayak-0. Clearly improvements can be made in this area.

4. Go to Fresno at least once a month. Sad to say that this goal has been met due to the declining health of Dadaee.

5. Volunteer at academic library. No, but wasn't for lack of trying. If things go as planned, I will have an internship in Fall at my current place of employment. I'm also getting in touch with two colleges up here to see if they have a position available for this Spring!

6. Keep up better on library-related mailing lists, publications. Yes, I've done this, and will continue to improve.

7. Attend church at least once a month. Another goal to be carried over for 2007!

8. Go on weekend trips more often (approx once every two months). Well it depends on what you consider trips. I believe what I meant was overnight trips. However, we're pretty cheap so we do day trips whenever possible. Guy was looking at some of our photos last night on the TV in slide show mode (very cool with music in the background). We both made the comment that we'd forgotten all the things we did this year. So overall, I think we met this goal (six trips), especially if you count day trips.

9. Guy and I volunteer. This has NOT occurred and we both feel this will fill a big void in our lives, so definitely on tap for 2007.

I haven't written up any resolutions for 2007 yet. But we definitely have a lot of things to work on. Our biggest goal for the year will be to start working on this house, and getting it in shape to sell. I want to move out of Stockton as soon as possible. The earliest that would happen is July, but of course there are all sorts of contingencies, like getting this house in move-in shape, doing all the work on it, selling it, finding a new house we both love in a nice area. Life is not boring...

Julie
