Lemon Tree Very Pretty

I love lemons, especially Meyer lemons. At the Stockton house, we have two lemon "bushes". One is Meyer and the other is not. Both produce yummy lemons, but I think the Meyer is slightly sweeter. I primarily use lemon juice for salad dressings, tzatziki, and chicken. It's also great aromatherapy and works well for freshening the garbage disposal.

We bought a lemon tree a few weeks ago, and I finally planted it over fourth of july weekend. We have it in a half-barrel on a rolling stand - that way, when the weather dips below freezing this winter, we can easily cover it with a blanket and move it under the patio for protection! It is a true dwarf tree, so it shouldn't get too big.

I learned that you need a LOT of potting soil to plant a half-barrel. I also learned that half-barrels will fall apart when empty if not kept wet. This is my first citrus tree (actually the first tree I have ever purchased) and I'm very excited. If you have any tips for growing citrus, please let me know!
