Yesterday and today there were a constant stream of visitors to the house. I'd seen similar scenes in movies and on television, but didn't quite believe they were accurate - until today! I went over to my grandmother's house mid-morning. One of their friends who sent cards faithfully after Teddie got sick was there, and I was thrilled to finally meet her in person, knowing her only as "the card lady". One of their caregivers was also there, and she was a complete wreck. She was cleaning up. My grandmother always likes things neat and tidy, and she wanted to start getting the living room back to its original arrangement as soon as possible. Other friends and family members streamed in throughout the day, all bearing food, and even at night, we had visitors until after 9pm both nights. Food included:
4 chickens
chocolate cake
large tray of croissant sandwiches
cold cuts
rolls
loaves of bread
ready-to-eat tortellini from grocery store
cookies (multiple varieties)
potato salad
deviled eggs
homemade granola
That's all I can think of at the moment.
It is gratifying and comforting to know how many people cared about Dadaee. I worry that after today, the number of visitors, phone calls and cards will start to dwindle. But first we've got to get through the funeral.
