Signs Signs

After Dadaee's death, (this still feels surreal to write) Mimi started seeing "signs" everywhere. First she and Johnny were talking and a feather fell down from the ceiling. Except that there were no feathers anywhere near by. The next day, I was putting groceries in the back of the car, and glimpsed what appeared to be a bank book underneath the front passenger seat. I pulled it out and it was a passport. I handed it to Mimi, she opened it and was dumbfounded. It was Dadaee's last expired passport. The following day we drove around town. There had been a lot of jet fighter planes overhead that day, and there were many trails. The sky was clear and they were easier to spot. Mimi said that the x's were Dadaee sending her kisses.

I realize that this type of thing gives people comfort. Mimi herself didn't believe much in this type of thing until she experienced it firsthand. I do believe - however, for me, these are not signs. I think I might see my own at some point.

So here's the capper - Tuesday night, we were watching American Idol in the den. Toward the end of the show, I kept thinking I saw something falling from the ceiling out of the corner of my eye. I was starting to get up and noticed dozens of bugs all over the floor. They were TERMITES. So gross. Mimi got the Raid and started spraying the hell out of them. Apparently they were in the front room too. The worst part was that there was a protusion from the corner of the wall that was either a cluster of termites, or they were all surrounding a piece of wood. Talk about the creechies. All we could do was laugh about it. Mimi wondered if Dadaee sent the termites. No, I don't think so Mimi, he knows we don't like bugs. The next day when I told Mom about our experience, she was more philosophical about it - perhaps he brought the termites to keep her occupied. Now that's something to chew on.
