Budget Crisis - Can It Get Worse? Don't Ask

We went to a forum this morning which lasted an hour and a half. The news was not good.
I hope and pray that we come to a decision where everyone is required to give up something if that helps prevent layoffs. I know that temporary employees are in the most danger, but we still need them!!! A faculty member said that we should all work together instead of the finger-pointing between staff/faculty/MPP, and that got a round of applause from the audience.

I know there are difficult decisions to be made, but I'm excited that Mary asked me to write a white paper about the furlough program I'd suggested before. The president has taken the most recent set of UBAC recommendations under consideration, and they look very equitable from my vantage point.

We'll get through this, no matter what. I feel so fortunate that my job is as "secure" as anyone else's, but that doesn't help my temporary friends and co-workers. Well, at least it's not Hurricane Katrina, or Iraq, or Gaza. Guess my optimism is still high from yesterday.
